The Stettler Genealogical Society was formed in 1998. It was started by Margaret Martin and Elva Knapp under the urging and guidance of local genealogist, Dr. Charles Bird. With the help of Bill Mulbach, who volunteered to be president, the first meeting was held in the Common Room of the Stettler Public Library on March 5, 1998, with 25 members in attendance. The secretary was Margaret Martin and the treasurer was Shirley Raynard. On November 12, 1998, the meeting place was moved to the LDS Church, where it is currently held on the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Access to the microfild reader in the Church has moved to the Stettler Library. We can
borrow microfilm from the Stettler Public Library through Interlibrary Loans. Our present officers are president Diane Campbell, secretary John Beggs and treasurer Linda Anderson . The majority of our genealogical problems are handled very capably by Charley Bird.
The members share knowledge, books, and personal techniques for searching family histories.
Membership costs only $5.00 per year. Everyone is welcome to join or just attend a meeting to see what we are all about.
